Cloud Baby are a Nashville based indie pop quartet, they are Jenna Scott (vocals), Cole Anderson (guitars), Timothy Ryssemus (drums) and Greg Graves (bass/keys).

They met at Altru Creative, a Nashville content creation based artist development company, where they all work. They spent their downtime collaborating in Altru’s studios. What started as a just for fun side project, quickly transformed into something bigger as the four began creating together.

The sound developed, taking influences from Scott’s pop singer/songwriter background, Anderson’s ear for unique samples and experimental songwriting, Ryssemus’s background in cinematic dark pop, and Grave’s love for upbeat/dance tunes.

Their debut single Blocks was released on Friday 21 August and the result is a refreshingly new sound, which maintains a pop based familiarity that keeps the music easy to listen to.

The track has a dreamy melancholic opening with a gentle guitar melody and a hushed vocal before the drums, 808 beat and synths join the fray.

The hypnotic beat of the drum machine really engages you and complements the ethereal vocals of the track.

Blocks is a song about inward reflection and the need for people to understand that things aren’t always better on the other side of the fence and there is a need to embrace what you already have.

This reflection is best summarised by the lyrics of the second verse when Jenna Scott sings “falling backward only adds to the plot, a step ahead is only breaking a block, runny nose drippin’ out of your thoughts, I always wished I could be someone I’m not yet”.

Blocks is a great introduction to the music of Cloud Baby and their brand of dream pop and a band I will definitely be following on Spotify as I believe they already have plans for a few more singles later in the year.
