Pizza Crunch - Coma-Inducing Gibberish
Pizza Crunch is a band I discovered early in 2020 when they released Fraud and followed it up with Twelve Month Seasonal Depression.
They are a Glasgow based quartet of Ewan Hearns (vocals/guitar), Nathan Stokoe (guitar/vocals), Ewan Nicholson (drums) and Craig McDermott (bass) drawing influences from garage, post punk and indie.
Following a January spotlight from The Unsigned Guide, Pizza Crunch released their new single Coma-Inducing Gibberish on Friday 5 February.
Commenting on the track, the band said:
The song essentially builds to a chorus that outlines the pain of speaking to someone who won’t stop talking. The verses follow life setbacks and lead to the conversation with this person in the chorus being all the more infuriating and 'coma-inducing'. We recorded it with Chris Marshall (Gerry Cinnamon) and Johnny Madden (Baby Strange) and are so excited to release it.
With Coma-Inducing Gibberish, Pizza Crunch have brought us a brilliant and harmonious fusion of fantastic guitars and tongue in cheek razor sharp lyrics.
It’s an eclectic mix of early 2000’s indie with its glorious and fuzzy guitar riffs paired with an 1980’s post punk vibes giving Pizza Crunch a distinctive and original sound all of their own.
One of Pizza Crunch’s strengths is to write sharp and witty lyrics as showcased when Ewan Hearns sings “A desire for tomorrow to come and now its clear, it's clear that life outgrew us, we're here, we're here flickering along, forming hurdles to distract you from whats done, what a faff dying to work, work till you die, what a life, it’s naff”.
Pizza Crunch's music is exuberant, full of energy and a real joy to the ears, they are a band I have loved since I heard Fraud and Coma-Inducing Gibberish has only increased my need to see them live once we come out of this never ending lockdown.
