Lemon Drink - Demon Child

Lemon Drink are a Glasgow based quartet, they are Sophie Bartholomew (vocals/guitar), Kirstie ‘KC’ Cunningham (guitar), Harry Smith (drums) and
Lauren Peters (bass).

The band was formed in late 2017 and hit the live scene tenaciously, unleashing their loud, sassy and rebellious pop tinged earworms on stages across Scotland in support of the likes of Carla J. Easton, Cloth, Lazy Day and Our Girl among others. The band have also headlined Glasgow institution King Tuts Wah Wah Hut among other esteemed venues.

I discovered Lemon Drink with their EP Better Run which was released on the Last Night From Glasgow label in March 2020. The four track record, featuring singles A Song For You and Gomez, showcased Lemon Drink’s energy and raw enthusiasm for music and helped establish themselves as ones to watch.

Their latest track Demon Child was released on Friday 12 February and the wait since the EP has been worth it.

Demon Child is a banger, we are welcomed to the track with a fountain of fuzzy guitars pouring the melody all over this track. This single sees Lemon Drink crank up the instrumentation and the volume, the song offers us some dynamic drumming and highly irresistible guitar riffs but still held together by Sophie’s powerful and edgy vocal.

The track was recorded at La Chunky Studios in Glasgow and mixed by Andy Monaghan (Frightened Rabbit) and shows fantastic progression for the band, a bigger more dynamic sound but very cleverly retains the rawness that will translate to live gigs.

Oh and before I forget that simple chorus of “she’s a demon child……….. she’s a demon child” will be the words that have you bouncing around your kitchen counting the days until we can see bands in hot and sweaty venues again.

Already established as one of Glasgow’s finest up and coming bands, Demon Child enhances this reputation and gives us a glimpse into the future of Lemon Drink.
