Post Coal Prom Queen - Salt

Scottish Electronic duo Post Coal Prom Queen released their latest single Salt on Friday 22 January and is a pre-cursor to their debut EP PCPQ which will be released in April 2021.

Post Coal Prom Queen comprises Lily Higham and Gordon Johnstone the prolific songwriting force behind the acclaimed band L-space.

Emerging in 2020, the duo found their feet with a number of singles including You Wouldn’t Download A Car as well as two collaborations with Japanese band Macaroom.

Salt opens with a wall of eerie dark futuristic synth that continues underneath the dreamy layers of trip hop beats that are then introduced.

It’s that combination of futuristic synths and dream pop beats that blend together to make Salt a real pleasure on your ears and thats before we even talk about the beautiful ethereal vocals that Lily delivers, they are simply stunning. Believe me when I tell you that this is a track that you will put on repeat.

It’s a track that finds Lily reflecting on the anxiety that is in the world right now as we lurch from one lockdown to another, I love the lyrics “every day that we measure it the water rises into my bedroom, every day that we measure it the streets they disappear,
fields salted the water rises
”.

Salt is the first single from the highly anticipated EP PCPQ and I can’t wait to hear more of their layered thought provoking sounds and lyrics. They are a band that I will be following keenly in 2021.
