North West based singer Jessica Luise returns with her third single Nice Try released on Friday 22 January. It was recorded at Matchbox Productions in Warrington and is set to kick off an breakthrough year for Jess.

Nice Try follows the release of Television Mister and continues her transition away from her folk beginnings and is the start of a big future for Jessica Luise.

This change in tempo will appeal to fans of The Sundays, beabadoobee, Wolf Alice and Fleetwood Mac and indeed anyone who likes a bit of indie rock/pop.

Jess says of the single:

This song is the one that helped me blossom as an artist. The simplicity yet rawness of the lyrics made this song quite cathartic to write and record.

Some shimmery guitars welcome us to Nice Try giving us an uplifting and engaging melody. The gorgeous jangly pop hides a more melancholic story as Jessica’s outstanding vocals float between delicate and vulnerable to an all out passionate shoutout to the listeners.

Lyrically it’s a bittersweet tale of a personal relationship, that battle of heart versus head that will resonate with many, it questions her intense feelings for someone that she knows is likely to hurt her. The opening verse when Jessica sings “tell me what you're drinking is it what I'm on too? tell me what you're thinking cos I'm thinking that I want you, why should I trust you when I know that you lie? put your hand in mine cos we both know we hate goodbyes” perfectly illustrates this.

Nice Try is a brilliant indie pop track and will certainly get some serious airplay and will bring Jessica Luise a lot of new fans.
