Future Gets Down - Tears
The Edinburgh based fivepiece are back after a two year hiatus with long-awaited single, Tears.
Future Get Down is fronted by Oliver Kass (vocals, various instruments) alongside Ally Dennis (bass, backing vocals, various instruments), Sam Bidgood (drums, percussion), Jeanne Laidlaw (synthesiser, backing vocals, percussion, keyboards) and Brian Pokora (synthesiser, guitar).
Tears is the first single to come from Future Get Down since they released two EPs in 2018 that won support from BBC Radio 6’s Lauren Laverne, Nemone, Vic Galloway and Steve Lamacq.
Tears is produced by Richard Formby, renowned for his work with the likes of Ghost Poet, Wild Beasts and Spaceman 3 and it’s released today, Friday 26 June.
The opening of the track immediately grabs your attention with its sonic drums and bass, before we have the introduction of the synth and guitars which set up this melodic banger.
It is a tune, clearly driven by an outstanding vocal, I love when Kass almost delivers a chant when singing the chorus as he belts out “I am stepping out… I am slipping out… I am drifting out of sync forever more”, it really is an assault to the ears.
That outstanding vocal continues with the delivery of some fantastic lyrics, I particularly enjoyed the verse “does it still hurt when you cry do you remember this song above everything else, nothing like you truly loved before, into heaven you fall show your heels to me, they’ll stop at the door I’ll have time to study footprints on the floor “.
Tears is a warm track, it’s sleek and smooth, it has a synth laden melody and ensures that Future Get Down have not missed a beat during their hiatus and continue to set the standard for crafting fantastic electro pop tunes. It is an outstanding track, get it on your playlists now.
