Allan Purvis - Moet

Allan Purvis is a 25 year old singer songwriter from Bishopton, just outside Glasgow and he has been writing music since he was thirteen.

A self taught guitarist Allan began writing his own songs about drew on a lot of influences from the likes of Oasis, Courteeners, The Killers, Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys and The View amongst others, his listening has diversified in recent years now taking from all sorts of genres, particularly drawing from dance artists such as Avicii and more poppy stuff akin to Charli xcx.

When asked about his ambitions in music Allan said:

I like to write catchy hooks with that big sorta festival anthem sound. I guess one day I’d be hoping to headline a major festival, the idea of playing song after song and having a crowd sing your own words back at you is something I can only dream about just now - total euphoria captured in a dream haha !!

Allan has released two tunes to date, Runaways was his debut single and Chasing Omens was the follow up, both recorded in his bedroom and then mixed and mastered by the amazing Novasound girls (studio engineers).

His latest single Moet was again recorded mostly in his bedroom and then parts were re-recorded in Paisley University with the help of a few boys needing tracks for their university project - Daniel Beattie, Aaron Taylor, Ted Huggins and Euan Hill.

Commenting on the project Allan said

I think the partnership with these boys just clicked in terms of what we were trying to record and I’ve since recorded another three tracks with them and there are more pending.

Myself and Daniel seem to be on the same wavelength in terms of the tunes we’re wanting to produce, I write the songs and he does a fantastic job of making mixes and mastering them, pure engineer wiz kid so he is !!

So Moet was released on Friday 25 June and the first thing I noticed is that’s it got a more chilled vibe than his previous releases, bringing a different dimension to Allan’s songwriting.

It’s got a very stripped back melody, almost sounding acoustic as it starts with a very floaty melody before the rhythmic drum beat kicks in as the track hits its chorus.

I loved the bluesy guitar riff about a minute from the end of the track as it took us towards the final verse with a more ramped up melody.

Complementing the track throughout were some very good lyrics and a strong raspy vocal from Allan which suited the floaty vibe of the tune.

Lyrically there a couple of repeated lines which I think may have been (damn that raspy vocal !!) “maybe I should get away for today, cos all the people run to you make it a goal to meet you, I would be better off in outer space” that I really liked.

I enjoyed this track hugely, it’s got a real good chilled vibe with a great melody perfect for a beer and a chat with your mates, socially distanced of course !!

Get this added to your playlists now, Moet, is a fantastic track from a great up and coming singer/songwriter.
