The Shop Window - Out of Reach
The Shop Window are a four strong Indie Pop/Jangly guitar band, fronted by partners in musical crime, Carl Mann and Simon 'Syd' Oxlee.
Their journey began over two decades ago when they landed their first record deal in the mid/late nineties in previous project Westpier, label mates with Sleeper on Indolent Records (BMG). Once Westpier folded, Carl ended up depping on guitar for Sleeper.
Around the same time, Carl also ended up playing guitar for Kylie Minogue for TV performances, gigs and a tour of Australia, and even co-wrote a track that ended up on a Kylie B-Side in 2000.
Following a long span of time spent on opposite sides of the world, Carl found himself back in the UK with music in mind. With old friends Martin Corder and Phil Elphee, a recording session brought six strong songs to fruition.
Carl invited his old friend Syd along to sing some harmonies, at which point they realised they're a bit like strawberries and ice cream, good on their own, but much better together!
Last year was a busy year for The Shop Window, releasing four singles, Reflection, Evacuate, Sad Eyes and Signpost. These releases have produced a growing fan base of loyal followers, seen glowing reviews from bloggers, radio play and racking up the Spotify playlists.
Their first single of 2021 is Out of Reach which was released on Friday 29 January.
Out of Reach is a fantastic piece of euphoric jangly indie pop, it’s gonna have you toe tapping and head bopping along. The melodic guitars put a joyous smile on your face but the lyrics hide a darker message.
The track is about dealing with the struggles of being trapped in a bubble, an apt subject matter for the shit storm that we are currently living in.
I particularly liked the lines where they sing “Papers say that times they are a changing, I don’t even know what day it is, feels like real time living in a movie, stop rewind and play my part again”. That really is the perfect description of the Groundhog Day we have all been living for the best part of a year!
The Shop Window are a breath of fresh air with their catchy melodies and upbeat jangly guitars, musically giving us bright and breezy tunes that bring with them the hope of Summer days out and mixing with friends.
