Darling BOY - Tea Drinkers of the World
Darling BOY is perhaps one of the most intriguing and precocious young men in popular music today.
Darling BOY, otherwise known as Alexander Gold, is an entirely self-taught multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and actor. He’s starred alongside Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the feature film London Town, playing The Clash’s drummer Topper Headon, and has more recently been named as the Musical Director of the smash hit musical ‘All Or Nothing’ in London's West End, having played Ian ‘Mac’ McLagan of Small Faces.
To add even more to his long list of achievements, he’s also part of the United Kingdom Ukulele Orchestra, been a guest of Dolly Parton in deepest Tennessee and has been asked to join two, (yes, two), of The Libertines mainman Carl Barât’s bands. He’s been a member of Joey Ramone's favourite band of all time, got talked out of setting up a London squat by Sex Pistols' Glen Matlock, and been taken out for dinner by Moby. Gold also recently joined Supergrass' Danny Goffey’s new band, switching between bass, guitar and drums.
Despite the impressive highlights of his career so far, it’s creating music that spurs Alex on, and Darling BOY is the vehicle that finds him well and truly in the driving seat.
Darling BOY released a couple of must hear singles in 2020, with Air Conditioned Gypsy and Golden Number and he is building on the acclaim he received with his latest release Tea Drinkers of the World which dropped on Friday 29 January.
The track is a short blast of gritty indie pop, fuzzy guitars, punchy drums and a distorted vocal that grabs you by the hands and pulls you to your feet.
There are few lyrics in the song but that doesn’t really matter as it’s the change up in the track that make this stand out particularly the climatic finish of screeching wailing guitars !!!
Tea Drinkers of the World is a blistering start to 2021 for this unique artist, he is not going to be pigeon holed with the music he creates, each release brings with it an identity of its own leaving Darling BOY as one of the most innovative musicians around at the moment.
