Future Get Down - When It Works

Future Get Down are the Edinburgh-based five-piece who have built up an enviable reputation over the past couple of years, renowned for their dark-edged, hook-laden compositions.

Future Get Down is fronted by Oliver Kass (vocals, various instruments) alongside Ally Dennis (bass, backing vocals, various instruments), Sam Bidgood (drums, percussion), Jeanne Laidlaw (synthesiser, backing vocals, percussion, keyboards) and Brian Pokora (synthesiser, guitar).

Since making their live debut in early 2017, they’ve appeared at festivals including Blue Dot, Electric Fields and Kelburn Garden Party. Their captivating live shows have led them to support the likes of Kraftwerk’s Wolfgang Flür, Jenny Hval and GNOD.

Tracks from their two 2018 EP’s received support from the BBC Radio 6’s Lauren Laverne, Nemone, Vic Galloway and Steve Lamacq, and they have performed live sessions for BBC Introducing and Drowned in Sound.

Their forthcoming debut album Here We Go Wonder is brimming with energy and a heady kaleidoscope of reference points, with nods to post punk, Berlin era Bowie, Nick Cave, Mark E Smith, early 2000s American indie and late 70s electronica.

The latest single When It Works was released on Friday 14 August and it’s a banger of a tune.

It’s hook laden right from the off with its thundering dance beats and those opening lyrics of “when it works, it works good, when it doesn’t work, it does you no good, it never works quite like it should” could sum up any number of life’s quandaries, especially in our current times.

When It Works is a tune that gives you no option but to dance along its just so infectious with it’s Kraftwerkesque inspired synth beats accompanied by a heavy bass and fantastic vocals.

If When It Works and previous release Tears are any indication to go by then the debut album is going to be massive. Get yourself involved, with the danceable beats Future Get Down are a must see.
