ASTER is a singer/songwriter based in Glasgow. After moving to the Scottish Highlands from Canada, ASTER began songwriting in her late teenage years, inspired by the storytelling centred work of Folk artists: Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell. 

After moving to Glasgow, she has been honing her musical style, attracted by the rich Glasgow indie scene and influences such as Bon Iver, Big Thief, Julia Jacklin and Weyes Blood.

ASTER first came to my attention in 2019 when she released Cool Luminscence and Middle of Spring, both of which put her on my radar as an artist to keep an eye on.

Today, Wednesday 16 September sees her release her latest single Unaware Bliss which is also self produced and is the first song from the forthcoming three track EP, There We Were, In A Frame, which is due to be released late autumn 2020.

Unaware Bliss is a great track, it’s got a dreamy melody, with its reverb guitars and floaty synths, it certainly piques your interest.

ASTER’s vocals are hauntingly beautiful, giving the track a melancholic tone describing the breakdown of a relationship.

She paints pictures with her choice of lyrics, drawing you into the story being told, I love the opening verse “Foxes cry out like they do every night, outside the rain tries but the quiet invites, we make ripples in the silence intertwined
breath, between us shared an unaware bliss”.

Unaware Bliss is a gorgeous song, a dreamy alt pop track with an ethereal voice along with pictorial lyrics that draw you into the story ensuring that the song stays in your head.

ASTER continues to show maturity in her songwriting and is creating her own niche within Glasgow and indeed Scotland’s indie landscape, I say this a lot but definitely an artist to be watched !
