First Frontier - Landslide — AliveandGigging

First Frontier are a neo-garage, post-punk, alternative rock duo now based in South London. They are Helena Poole (drums) and Paul Stafford (guitar) with both sharing the vocal duties.

They met in 2016 when the status quo of the UK was upended and found solace and normality in one another although it wasn’t until 2019 that this started to manifest itself musically and First Frontier was born.

The lockdown allowed them time to write songs and build foundations and hone their undoubted skills seeing them release their debut single Take Cover in September which I had the pleasure of reviewing.

They now follow this up with Landslide which was released on Monday 2 November.

Landslide is another full on garage punk track, with it’s heavy reverberating guitars and it’s punchy dance laden drums giving it a real upbeat and engaging melody.

I commented on the drums on previous release Take Cover about the dance vibes they give off and this is not lost in this track either, in fact it is hiddenly cleverly in the lyrics when Paul sings “I feel your beat you fool my feet” because no matter how much you try not to tap your feet you will end up doing it !

The song itself is about that point when a relationship turns from casual to serious and you are caught in the “landslide” of love illuminated by the words “beyond my surmise hypnotise me with your golden eyes, the heat you give it makes me wanna live in a different way, caught up in a landslide”.

First Frontier with Landslide have released another track that celebrates euphorically the good things in life and puts a smile firmly on your face, much needed in these times and it just happens that it’s also a bloody good song.

They are definitely a band to be watched and I look forward to hearing more from the South London duo.
