Marine Anthropology - September Syndrome
Marine Anthropology are an indie rock trio based in Washington DC, they are Eli Thayer (guitar/vocals), Kat Liu (guitar) and Joseph Wehmeyer (drums).
They burst onto the scene in 2019 with the release of their debut EP Sunburst Chaser. This was followed up In late 2019 by Talk Me Out of It.
They continued to write and in 2020 we saw the release of Aiaia their debut album in May and another single Semiconscious in August and now their latest single September Syndrome released on Friday 18 September.
September Syndrome is the second single from their upcoming album Sparks in the Glass and too coin a football (soccer for the band!) it’s a song of two halves.
The first half of the track is a melancholic indie ballad, emotional raw vocals from Eli, perhaps describing a friend moving away and struggling to settle in the new area, I love the lines “there are well meaning folks everywhere who still won’t return your calls, it’s not cause they don’t like you, you have no way of knowing what might be going on”.
And then the second half the song takes a huge twist as the volume and energy is turned up a notch or three, drums and guitars come crashing in and drive this song through to its climatic finish.
September Syndrome is going to be one of those songs that build up in a live setting, the crowd enjoying the emotion of the track before it explodes into a force that will see bodies bouncing up and down, it’s going to be a winner.
