Casual Drag - Johnny
Casual Drag are an Edinburgh garage punk band, they are Richard Clarke (guitar/vocals), Dominic MacInnes (bass) and Christian Werner (drums).
They are a fairly new band only playing shows since last June, but have been fortunate to play with some great bands including Medicine Cabinet, Gaygirl, Memes and Joe Talbot of Idles fame.
Friday the 13 March sees them release their 2nd single Johnny, it was recorded at Green Door Studios with Ronan Fay of Sweaty Palms.
To quote Richard on the what the song is about:
I try not to put too much meaning on each song as we want the listener to take what they want from it! but the song is inspired by a guy i know, I guess we wanted 'johnny' to be a caricature of the lad stereotype, its a tongue in cheek look at everything that comes with that!
The song itself is a little over 4 minutes long, starts off with a heavy base, before guitars and drums kick in, it’s got a nice fast paced tempo to it with a stinging guitar riff. The lyrics do look at the caricature of current lad stereotyping highlighted by “Johnny’s got a six pack, Johnny’s got a six pack”, and are very tongue in cheek !!
It’s a good listen, driven along by guitar riff and drives with a very good vocal, with the everything speeding up towards the end of the song as it has a frenetic instrumental finish.
