The Deep Shining Sea - Girl there’s something you should know

Formed in Paisley in 2018 The Deep Shining Sea are Steven Hillcoat (guitars), Jamie McLachlan (drums) and Gareth Fairley (bass).

They play indie/pop/rock guitar music with influences from Scottish indie bands such as, Teenage Fanclub, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Mogwai, Belle & Sebastian and Arab Strap to name a few.

2019 was a good year supporting acts such as The Blow Monkeys and Toploader before rounding off the year with a hometown headline show in Paisley.

Today, 13 March 2020 sees them release their debut single Girl there’s something you should know.

The song is just shy of 4 minutes and begins with a soft melodic introduction, the drums setting a steady beat, before the bass comes in giving it an almost pop jazz feel, before the guitar riff comes in to pick up the song. The lyrics are really well written describing a toxic relationship, one particular line ticking out “you’ve got sunshine I’ve got rain, it doesn’t have to be that way”. It also has a catchy chorus “home fires burn so let me go, flame held high, girl there’s something you should know” and the song concluding with an end to the relationship.

I really enjoyed this nice piece of indie pop and look forward to what they do in the future, definitely one to watch.
