Pretty Strange - Lady of the Night
Pretty Strange are a 4 piece alternative rock band from in and around Glasgow. Jack Taylor (drums), Chris Souter (lead guitar) and Emma McGarvey (bass/vocal) started a new band when Static Roots disbanded and were joined by Leighann McStay (vocals/rhythm guitar) formerly of Take Today and The Phaetons.
The guys draw their musical influences from the likes of The Pixies, Garbage and Queens of the Stone Age.
Last summer they were short listed to play TRNSMT in the Summer of Sound Glasgow Underground competition.
They recorded their debut single Lady of the Night with well known producer Mark Morrow.
The song lasts just over the five minute mark, it’s introduced by a smooth ongoing guitar riff before we are introduced to Leighann McStay’s sultry vocal, which works perfectly with the dirty riff and smooth drums of the track.
For the avoidance of doubt the song is about a man meeting a prostitute to fulfil his sexual desires as the lyrics “just give me some time to work my magic oh, and there's not enough so I'll pay, to get a little extra time oh” highlight.
It is a good debut single from the four piece and I look forward to hearing more from them in the future.
