Drift - The Edge of Love (The Vegan Leather Remix)

Joining the rich lineage of musicians who have come out of the historic town of Paisley, DRIFT are an electronic duo who merge the folk influences of songwriter Linzi Clark and the electronic stylings of producer Andrew Quinn.

Edge of Love was originally released on August 2019, but a collaboration with their fellow Buddies, The Vegan Leather has led to the track being given a new remix.

On the collaboration Linzi Clark said:

When Gian asked to remix our track we were really excited to see what he done with it. If DRIFT and The Vegan Leather had a baby it would sound like this remix, I love that! It's totally got The Vegan Leather signature disco touch and that punchy synth line is so snappy it sticks in my head anytime I play it. Of course I love how much he's played about with my vocals too, with a naturally higher register, I could never quite nail the sexy husky thing and this takes it to a whole new level so I'm pretty happy about that

Gianluca Bernacchi of The Vegan Leather had this to say:

I've always been drawn to the vocals in Edge Of Love, they're so dreamy. Though it did take three attempts at getting this remix to work, there's trance and metal versions that shall never see the light of day. I tried to capture that late 00s nu-disco feel, big claps and phasers all over the place.

The remix was released today, Thursday 11 June and it’s bloody brilliant, it’s a fantastic combination of electronic pop, brooding synths, overlayed with a disco drum beat that it gives it a real energetic disco vibe.

It still retains the heart of the original DRIFT track, but with the added art pop complexity that The Vegan Leather are renowned for, Linzi Clark’s vocals are given a little mix to boot, particularly as the track draws to a close, where the vocals of the chorus are distorted giving them an almost robotic sound.

Lyrically The Edge of Love delivers, there are some very clever lines opening with “you were right, I always try to play it down never want to stick around
I realise that this feels right but I keep it on the inside
” and the final verse sings “behind your eyes uranium you crystalise, we decay exposing our disguise, Is that just life? how can we try to feel something real everytime”.

The chorus is very catchy “standing on the edge of love it’s hard to fall when we play tough, standing on the edge of love I wonder is it real enough”.

This Vegan Leather remix of The Edge of Love is fantastic, it will have you hooked right from the opening beat, and you will be dancing along to it before it ends.
