Sunstinger - Nothing’s Alright Leave Me Alone

cover art.png

Hailing from small villages scattered across Fife, Sunstinger are a four piece alternative/noise rock band from Fife consisting of Taylor Wright (vocals/guitar), Scott Gourlay (guitar), Bill Anderson (bass) and Adam Gregory (drums).

They rehearse in Leslie and record in Rosyth, but consider themselves a Dunfermline band.

Reminisce over the town and county’s most notable creative outfits of the last decade and you’ll find members of the four piece alt shoegaze outfit have played a key role in many of them. Rioteers, Tomas Bird & The Blonde Spirit, Sergeant… the list of hard hitters laid to rest goes on. Out of this rich and chaotic history, Sunstinger emerged (a little hungover) in late 2017, bloodied, but no less driven, new responsibilities only re-affirming their faith in the necessity of turning up and letting loose.

This year has been busy for Sunstinger as it saw them release Shimmer and The Void and is now followed by their latest single Nothing’s Alright Leave Me Alone which is released today, Friday 24 July.

Wow they have only gone and done it again, I said when I reviewed Shimmer back in March that it was one of my favourite songs of the year, they have gone and blown that out of the proverbial water with Nothing’s Alright Leave Me Alone.

For me the track is a masterpiece, it’s got so much going on, it has a glorious fuzz of guitars ala The Jesus Mary and Chain giving the song some dark vibes but alongside that sits a melody that is straight out of 90’s indie full of fantastic guitar hooks and sharp drumming.

They mix of tempo throughout the track, complemented by the brilliant vocal, gives Nothing’s Alright Leave Me Alone a real spark, it is definitely up there with the best of 2020 so far.

These guys know how to write a tune, their songs will appeal to the Saturday night revellers as well as those bedroom boppers. I can’t wait til we are able to have gigs again and I can catch these guys live.
