The Covasettes - Be Mine

The Covasettes are an indie rock four piece, from Manchester, made up of frontman Chris Buxton, lead guitarist Matt Hewlett, bassist Jamie McIntyre and drummer Matt Buckley.

They burst onto the scene in late 2017 with the release of their debut single, This Feeling, which combines Buxton’s infectious vocals and lyrics with Hewlett’s riffs and the driving rhythm of McIntyre and Buckley.

In 2018 the boys released three more singles, Wondering Why, Top Drawer and Wild. Those releases proved that The Covasettes are ones to watch in the future, and helped them achieve a place on Spotify's Indie List and Summer Indie playlists, gaining over 200,000 streams in just a couple of months.

Furthermore, 2018 saw The Covasettes play sold out shows in their hometown of Manchester as well as Derby, London and Leeds. The quartet performed at Leeds Direct Arena for the Radio Academy after being crowned most exciting band for 2018. Other notable performances include a sold out show at Leeds Stylus supporting The Sherlocks on their tour.

In early 2019 the boys played their first headline tour and released their fifth official single Like You and their debut EP It's Always Sunny Above the Clouds.

This year saw them release Spin in March and this is now followed up by the release of Be Mine today, Friday 24 July.

When asked about Be Mine the band said:

Be Mine is one of our favourite tracks ever. As soon as we’d written it, we couldn’t wait to play it live and get it recorded in the studio.

Every time we play Be Mine at gigs, it gets such a lively reaction and creates a real buzz in the room, so when it came to deciding our next single, Be Mine was the clear favourite. We think it follows on really well from Spin as it has a raw, gritty sound that is more rock driven than some of our previous releases.

We’ve had Be Mine ready to go for a long time now and we can’t wait to get it out there for everyone to hear. We hope that people get behind it like they have with our other releases and come and sing it back to us at the live shows.

Be Mine is a great track, it has a real old school rock’n’roll feel to it, with its fantastic guitar riff and punchy drums driving the melody it immediately grabs you by the collar and has you hooked.

As it progresses those guitars become more psychedelic giving the track a real change of energy and defo will have you bouncing along.

I love the lyrics as the protagonist tries to discover what motivates their partner, it’s uses clever and colourful metaphors to bring this to life when Buxton sings “I could tell you 'bout the universe and outer space, pick you up until you're feeling like you own the place, but do you really know how it feels to be mine? I could show all the stars and what they really mean, show you all the different lines that you could draw between, but do you really know how it feels to be mine? do you really know how it feels to be mine?”.

Be Mine is a definite winner, combining old school rock’n’roll and giving it a modern twist to create driving melodies and lyrics that are catchy and have you singing along after a minute or two. Give The Covasettes a listen, I guarantee you will love them.
