Aly Macpherson - Pocket in the Woods

Aly Macpherson is a singer/songwriter/multi instrumentalist originally hailing from Aberdeenshire.

While studying music at Perth College he began performing as a solo artist, writing and recording original music, eventually graduating with a Bachelor's Degree with Honours in Popular Music Performance with focus on the drum kit.

Since 2018 Aly has released 2 EP’s, Just Above Heaven and Songs for the Sake of It. During that time he was featured in the Red Dog Music Blog, Dan Potter Happy Hour and Whitney Radio to name a few.

Aly tells me he has big plans for 2021 and it kicks off with his first standalone single Pocket In The Woods which was released on Friday 12 February.

It’s a lo-fi acoustic track, it has a dreamy melody and is delivered with heartfelt and poignant lyrics, the vocal on the track from Aly is fantastic. It’s I guess a contemporary indie acoustic ballad but it’s definitely tie dyed in folk undertones.

Aly may be singing about real people in the song or it may just be fictional characters, either way it’s a beautifully crafted song about the pressures of modern life and the need to escape from time to time and find the proverbial Pocket In The Woods. It’s perfectly illustrated when Aly sings ”you can only find it if you know where to look, a little pocket in the woods”.

I first had the pleasure of hearing Aly with his EP Songs for the Sake of It and I was blown away by his vocals and songwriting skills. Pocket In The Woods continues the excellent output and I’m excited to hear more from this fantastic talent.
