The Tropicanas - Thoughts Inside Your Head

The Tropicanas are yet another band coming out of the hotbed of the West Lothian music scene and are Andrew Burns(guitar/vocals), Ruaridh MacPherson (drums/guitar/bocals), Joe Murty (bass/vocals), Joe White (guitar/drums) and Ryan MacPherson (synth).

You will see from the introductory paragraph that they are multi skilled instrumentalists and they are not adverse to swapping roles when performing live and have been fortunate to share the stage with acts such as Neon Waltz and Peach Pit, as well as playing the Pyramid Stage at the Kelburn festival.

Back in 2022 The Tropicanas were hugely productive releasing a number of brilliant singles and getting recognition in the music press and radio from the likes of Vic Galloway and Shereen Cutkelvin before for them going into a quiet year in terms of singles in 2023 with only one release.

So it’ll be interesting to see what’s in store for 2024 but they are kicking the year off with the release of Thoughts Inside Your Head and although it’s only February they are delivering an early sound of Summer with a psychedelic piece of jangly pop.

It’s got such a luscious melody with its garage surf guitars and energetic drums that just leave you imagining your sipping cocktails in Ibiza rather than Hot Chocolate in a cold Scottish Winter.

As always their lyrics reflect on the optimism of better things ahead as reflected in the words:

“I guess I’ll never know what’s going on behind those eyes, I hope a galaxy or an endless shimmering sea”.

Thoughts Inside Your Head marks a great start to the year for The Tropicanas and I for one can’t wait to see what’s next.
