Plastic Glass are a four piece indie-rock band hailing from Sunderland, they take numerous influences and bring them together in an energetic way. The band are Lewis Conlin (vocals), Dylan Abbott (lead guitar), Ben Richardson (bass) and Frazer Graham (drums).

After receiving support on their previous releases from the likes of Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music), Clint Boon (XS Manchester) and BBC Introducing, Plastic Glass are ready to propel their brand of infectious guitar music to the masses.

Gaining great attention on the live scene the band have played sold out headline shows at venues such as Think Tank (Newcastle) and Independent (Sunderland) as well as supporting hot indie outfits The Snuts, The K’s and The Pale White. Now working with nationally acclaimed promoters Scruff Of The Neck and This Feeling, the Sunderland four piece are travelling further afield, having already played shows in Leeds, Glasgow, Carlisle and Manchester this year before being cut short.

The new single, Going Away was released on Friday 6 November and when asked specifically about the track, bassist Ben Richardson explained:

This song is technically a reincarnation of an old Plastic Glass track that I actually wrote the lyrics for, admittedly it wasn’t great. However, some of the ideas from that track certainly carried over into this final version that we’re now releasing.

Lyricist and guitarist Dylan Abbott goes on to discuss the themes of this track:

Inspired by leaving home to go to university, lyrically this single covers the topics of boredom and wanting a change of scene. Specifically, tired of being stuck living at home and constantly relying on the same set of people.

Going Away brings us that familiar Plastic Glass indie rock sound but with a heavy tinge of punk piled on top. There are huge guitar riffs, heavy bass and punchy drums delivering a fast blast of indie punk that gives you a smack on the face.

The lyrics reflect on moments of change in their lives particularly on leaving home to go to university to get away from the boredom and being stuck with the same people and places, particularly well described with the lyrics “this ones for wiping the slate clean, I’m sick and fucking tired of being stuck in this daydream, I’m evil hanging somewhere in the inbetween, it’s not what I want but it’s what I need”. The irony of these lyrics is only too prevalent when most students would rather do the opposite than being stuck in the same four walls of their university accommodation!!

Going Away is another banging track from Plastic Glass as they continue to blaze a trail in the North East of England’s music scene, there are big things ahead for these lads once they can get touring their punchy brand of indie punk pop.
