VYB - Deja Vu — AliveandGigging

Hailing from Atlanta, VYB (pronounced vibe) play a blend of uplifting pop rock and electronic dance music to create a truly unique sound. The trio consisting of Tom Belau (vocals, keys, guitar), Noah Phillips (lead guitar) and Ryan Jones (drums).

Initially lead vocalist Tom Belau’s solo project, VYB evolved into a full fledged project while Belau was assembling a live band to perform his first EP. The trio’s undeniable chemistry led to the decision to scrap Tom’s solo work and move forward as an entirely new entity, known as VYB.

The trio have been captivating Atlanta crowds since their formation at the top of 2019, quickly reaching local success with their early singles Ocean Breeze and Think Of You.

Their debut album Mood Swings, released in early 2020, dipped heavily into the usage of color to set the album’s animated tone and they spread this aesthetic by bringing a choreographed light show to their live set.

Their latest single Deja Vu was released on Friday 6 November and it’s an uplifting pop rock banger.

The track has a pounding drum beat and some glitzy shimmering guitars, there are a plethora of influences coming through in the track, there are heavy EDM beats, feel good alt rock and even a grungy punk edge to the track the combination of these keep the song sounding fresh from beginning to end.

Deja Vu is a personal for Tom track about finding himself in a romantic encounter albeit a little uncomfortable as it tells the story of continually going back to an old relationship and not moving on best described in the opening lines of the chorus “it feels like I have been here before, you always leave me wanting more”.

With Deja Vu VYB are giving us a fantastic feel good tune to brighten up the world and with talk of vaccine discoveries for our current pandemic, this track might just be the medicine we need and until that gets here !
