Death By Piano - Nightwalk
Death By Piano is a Brooklyn based duo comprised of singer/keyboardist Kalen and producer/instrumentalist Greywolf.
Nurturing a grassroots following on the underground of their native New York since their formation in 2017, their relentless live gigs around the city and head turning showcase sets at Rough Trade NYC and elsewhere have marked them out as one of the city's most prominent emerging talents.
Thus far, Death By Piano has released a debut EP, Countdown, and a number of remixes.
Following on from the acclaimed Emergency and Newer Light, Death By Piano share the final instalment in their trilogy of 2020 single releases, Nightwalk which came out on Friday 23 October.
The track is absolutely fantastic, it is a glorious mix of very danceable electronic beats combined with a heady mix of strings and synths, centred around the lush vocals of Kalen.
Nightwalk is a very chilled out, atmospheric track, it will have you humming along to the fantastic melodies whilst dragging you to your feet for those electronic beats.
Lyrically it tells the story of trying to put the past behind and seeking a new light before the evening ends, this is told best with the chorus when they sing “take a nightwalk to see, take a nightwalk to put the past to sleep and make those mares that gallop through my streets dissolve and cease, take a
nightwalk to come clean, just you and me”.
Death By Piano are a band I have only recently discovered but already there is some familiarity in their work, they look to create tracks that tell a story with the music production and their lyrics and Nightwalk certainly delivers with its contrasting vocals and eerie synths they paint a perfect landscape of a late night meeting to resolve the past.
