YNES & GIRLI - Pretty Sure Remix

English-Canadian YNES was born in Coventry but has also spent time living and working in Canada.

Her music draws from myriad sources, coming together, creating an eclectic yet honest sound, seeing YNES transcend the expectations of the typical singer/songwriter.

YNES wears her heart on her sleeve (quite literally). From her influences, Kate Nash, GIRLI, Conor Oberst and The Front Bottoms to the honest and open lyrics, at times reminding her to love herself, just like the tattoo she sports.

With songs ranging from the introspective to acute societal observations, there is something relatable yet challenging to the lyrics and music YNES produces.

Pretty Sure was YNES’ debut single in August 2019, it was written after her having been cheated on and deciding not to blame the ‘other woman’, who actually had no idea either.

YNES has now teamed up with GIRLI to bring a reworking of the fan favourite track, that promises to be twice as badass with twice as much solidarity!

Pretty Sure was released on Monday 2 November and when asked about the collaboration YNES said:

With where both GIRLI and I are at in our careers, I feel this is a really pivotal release that could take off given the opportunity. Pretty Sure is my most successful single to date with 3K views on the music video and 2K streams without any promo or advertising. Now I’m more well equipped within the music industry, I’m really passionate to give this track the platform it deserves (and how better to do it than with another badass womxn artist?). GIRLI has just released her first single in over a year, Has Been, which has been featured on misfits 2.0 and new music friday ,again, done independently. I really feel as though both the song and our positions will resonate with people.

Pretty Sure is a fabulous piece of independent punk pop, as both YNES and GIRLI bring a raw energy to the track that is attention grabbing from the off especially with the catchy drum and guitar melody.

The track is full of unbridled energy and has you bopping along to the fantastic beat and YNES and GIRLI complement each other perfectly on the vocals.

The song deals with a particularly difficult situation and the lyrics show the angst in dealing with the cheating partner, some of them are gloriously biting and sharp tongued, I love the line “as much as I’m still invested please do not fucking test me”.

I love the fact that the song ends with real girl power statement as it fades out to the lines of “I’m pretty sure that you can get the oh oh the fuck away from me oh oh oh oh, I’m pretty sure that you can stay oh the fuck away from me oh oh oh oh”.

Pretty Sure is an awesome track, it’s got a really punchy melody and those chorus/verses are so catchy they will swirl around in your head for hours afterwards.

The Pretty Sure Remix will be part of the Sit Down, Grow Up EP which rounds off first era of YNES so look out for that and the fasten your seat belts for the start of the next era, I’m sure it will be an absolute blast !!
