Shader - True To Life

Hailing from Stoke and Manchester, SHADER are a four piece indie rock band, they are Stu Whiston (vocals/guitar), Mike Lo Bosco (guitar), Daz Edwards (bass) and Tom Turney (drums).

SHADER had been building a strong following through relentless gigging, but in this fallow year for gigs this has transferred to social media. A particular buzz was generated from what turned out to be a stunning isolation cover of the Simple Minds classic “Don’t You”, chosen by Stu as he is a huge fan of the 80’s classic movie “The Breakfast Club”. The cover was picked up on by American Psycho author Brett Easton Ellis (rumours suggest this cover may feature on a future physical release).

They will release their third single True To Life on Friday 25 September and when asked about the track lyricist Stu Whiston said:

True To Life is about the “self entitled” generation. Everybody wants everything right now and seldom are ever satisfied. It’s about the grass isn’t always greener, so be happy with what you’ve got because you could lose it all in a flash.

True To Life is exactly what you want in an indie tune, a guitar riff that hooks you in and has you bopping along, a middle section that rocks it up even more and melodies that captivate you from start to finish. What’s not to like !!

Lyrically I love the opening lines when Whiston sings “empty rooms and empty lives, you lost it all so many times, you got it all to give away, too many choices for us to make, you want it all and more, you got too much time now but did you ever care to know” which captures that self entitlement brilliantly suggesting you can give it all away cos you will get it all again.

That grass is greener element is summed up as the song fades out to the repeated words “don’t feel your losing out….”.

SHADER are definitely a band carving a niche for themselves in the Indie market, with well written and energetic tunes and True To Life builds on that to keep them on that upward trajectory. They are a band whose tunes demand attention and will translate very well onto the live stage at some point in the future.

Whilst waiting on live gigs resuming give SHADER some love, the good news I have heard that there may yet be another single to drop this year, so keep an eye out.
