Hivemind - Medicine
HIvemind are a four piece rock band from Sunderland they are Georgia McRae (vocals), Steven Kane (guitar), James Wallace (bass/vocals) and Jack Johnson (drums/percussion).
Having travelled around the country opening for acts such as The LaFontaines, My Vitriol, Fangclub, Airways, Dead! & Shaun Ryder, Hivemind have secured a close knit community of fans.
Supported by BBC Introducing & Amazing Radio, in 2019 Hivemind were hand picked by BBC Introducing to play This Is Tomorrow festival in Newcastle, as well as making numerous appearances on national television including taking part in a Channel 4 show with drummer & comedian Al Murray.
Before lockdown, Hivemind recently played a sold out show at Head of Steam, Newcastle and were preparing for their summer festival Slots.
Undeterred by the global pandemic Hivemind released their new single Medicine today Friday 25 September. The song was recorded by Richard Trubridge at Tru Studios.
Medicine is a heady mix of alt rock guitar riffs, sweeping the song along with a catchiness that will stay with you, but it is interspersed with those little punk angst moments with which Hivemind have built their burgeoning reputation on in the North East and beyond.
The track delivers plenty of attitude with its crunching guitars but can get emotional with the lyrics and the guitar riffs that splice through the song.
For me the song is about dealing with a relationship that is needed despite some trying moments (using the metaphorical medicine) as outlined in the lines “remember when we used to be a knife fight, I couldn’t sleep without a night light, I need to feel you around”.
It is best summed in the chorus intro words of “medicine yeah you caught me on the floor, coated in sweat and in love, medicine yeah you caught me looking up”.
This is a fantastic track as it sways through some great guitar hooks as the song picks you up and takes you on it’s journey, it may just be the Medicine you need to get you through the rest of this very strange year.
