Fake Lips - Rise
Fake Lips are an indie punk/rock duo from West Lothian, they are Gary Mclean (vocals/guitar) and Michael Cameron (drums).
The band draw inspiration from the likes of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash, The Fratellis, The White Stripes, The Black Keys and Idles to name a few.
Their debut single, Fame Whore, featuring Glasgow drag queens Lacy Rain and Dharma Geddon in the music video was released amid Lockdown this April, as a now or never introduction for Fake Lips.
Marching on undeterred by the ongoing crisis music communities are facing, the boys have re-enlisted producer Ross Hamilton and director Stuart Breadner to follow up with the second brand new single Rise which was released on Friday 4 September.
Rise is a fantastic track introduced by a stunning guitar riff and a handclap before the strong vocal kicks in. The rumbling guitar riffs and explosive drumming lifts the sound to give it a head bopping energy that makes you want to bounce about.
Lyrically the song conveys a serious message, a protest song against the age old social economic problems that continue and never change despite many promises, it’s perfectly captured by the tracks opening lines “You got a lot of heart so use it well, there's people at the top who need removing, they spew the bile of false desires, tell me boys and girls who are they fooling?”.
But it’s not all doom and gloom and oppression as the chorus is very much about the rise of the underdog and sticking two fingers up at the people who run government. You will find yourself joining in and belting out the words “So we rise, oh yeah, now we're taking over, So we rise, oh yeah, no weight upon our shoulders, So we rise, oh yeah, their hearts keep getting colder, So we rise, so we rise, and you ain't gonna find us all alone“.
Rise is the first time that Fake Lips popped up on my radar, but after also catching up with Fame Whore they are certainly a band that I will be watching closely from now on, .
These tunes will create a great live atmosphere when they are allowed to unleash them in concert halls across the country, hopefully, that day is getting closer.
