Vela Incident are an Indie Rock Band originating in Port Talbot, South Wales featuring Matt Bradley (vocals), Adam Cardy (rhythm guitar), Patrick Oliver (drums/keyboard), Evan Philips (lead guitar) and Adam Tweed (bass).

The band has earned rave reviews with various magazines and bloggers and also building up a fan base since joining social media in July this year.

They also released their debut single Went Too Soon in July and they dropped their second single Hey You on Friday 28 August.

When asked about the track the band said:

The song was written about a friend who was going through a bad period in their life. The lyrics reflect that everybody goes through troubles in their life but friends, family are always there for them. We've tried to reflect in the song the mood of the person, the verses are quite dark, signifying the loneliness a person can feel, the hopelessness, where as the chorus is uplifting, euphoric, represents coming through the other side. 

Hey You is a great track, it has a very melancholic but catchy melody set by the rhythm of the gentle guitar riff and drums, there are some strong influences coming through in the song, with some real vibes akin to The Verve.

I love that the Vela Incident are confident enough to allow the melody to be the driving force of the track, particularly when it almost becomes instrumental mid way through.

Lyrically, it’s an ode to another person and the acknowledgment that everyone has to deal with similar issues in life highlighted by the lines “so I tell you hey you, you feel ashamed, you’re looking around for someone else to blame, hey you we feel the same, you’ve been there, well you know I feel your pain”.

This was the first time I had heard Vela Incident and if Hey You is the standard of their songwriting then I am now a fan and looking forward to more releases in the not too distant future.
