PG Ciarletta - The Sesh

Phil Ciarletta is a Fife based singer/songwriter, he comes from humble backgrounds in the Fife seaside town of Kirkcaldy and performs as PG Ciarletta, all his songs are based on relatable and reflective experiences and observations of friends, family and himself.

His influences range from the likes of Gerry Cinnamon, The View, Paolo Nutini and the Stone Roses, which have shaped his indie, alternative Scottish sound.

After playing pubs and open mic nights with his acoustic guitar, Phil saw his burgeoning performing career brought to a halt by the outbreak of Covid-19 earlier this year.

The lockdown period was initially disappointing as PG Ciarletta’s first gig was cancelled. However, he transformed the negative prospect of lockdown into a positive opportunity, turning his creativity into songwriting after a moment of ‘now or never’ realisation.

The result is an album’s worth of written material, with his first single, The Sesh, which was released Friday 28 August.

When asked about the track Phil explained:

my aim make an emotive, reflective connection with the listener and create a memorable feel-good factor with my melodies and sound and this is exactly what The Sesh is about, everyone has been on a ‘sesh’ that has gone too far, right? and then experienced the contributing factors, and resulting highs and lows.

I believe there is a sound and a market out there, and hope that people will get right behind the music. Ultimately, the aim is to get the first singles on the media platforms and create a buzz but long term the dream is to sell out Hampden Park.

The Sesh is a catchy number, it has a great melody that definitely grabs your attention, it’s a great guitar hook which is complemented by the vocals when they kick in.

There is a definite Cinnamon vibe coming through with the raw Scottish accent and some clever relatable lyrics, the chorus is a testimony to that when Ciarletta sings, “when you go out on Friday, it turns into Sunday, before you know it you’re going home and its Monday, you never overdosed. You went for one or two then it turns to a few then you look at your phone and you know you should be home, your mates comatosed”.

The Sesh is a strong debut single from PG Ciarletta and if the rest of his songs are at a similar level then I can’t wait to hear more of what else he has written during lockdown, so look out for some follow up material fairly soon from that albums worth of material he has written.
