Salt River Shakedown - Fight or Flight

Salt River Shakedown have been performing across the Scottish gig circuit for the past three years with their raw and fuzzalicious blues rock. 2019 saw them begin to get serious recognition playing alongside the likes of The Lazy’s, Crobot and Anchor Lane.

The band released their first single Sunbird last April which was taken from their EP Road to the Sacred Island, a follow up to their previous release Your Wings To Fly.

Following this and their first UK tour the band felt a change of direction was required and brought in a new vocalist so the line up is Alek McMillan (guitar), Shaun Kilna (bass), Jake Mackie-Duncan (drums) and Griff (vocals).

Previous single Sign of the Times was the first track with new vocalist Griff and was met with critical acclaim.

Their latest single Fight or Flight was recorded at Unit 55, produced by the bands guitarist Alek McMillan and was released on Friday 30 October.

Fight or Flight is an energetic bluesy rock track, kicking off with a heavy guitar riff and hypnotic drums, before the fabulous keyboard kicks in to give this track a real psychedelic edge.

The track constantly shifts from pounding riffs and drum beats into a soaring singalong chorus of “Yeah, I think it must be the right time yeah, I think it must be the right time just because I can’t get you off my mind, just because I can’t get you off my mind”.

I love the change ups in the track where we the band jump from traditional rock beats to a more trippy mind altering rhythm, it really is a track to have a few beers to.

Salt River Shakedown continue to bring us their bluesy rock’n’roll but are not afraid to psych it up to give themselves a unique sound and create a pathway that is truly their own.

The bands drummer Jake Mackie-Duncan created a unique video to accompany the video and said:

We wanted to make a music video based around recreating iconic movie scenes, using only ourselves as actors, with cheaply made props and a phone camera. The band are big movie buffs and wanted to make something that was a tribute to some great classic movies (and a few not so great). The video took a huge amount of planning and prep to pull off, complicated further by having to work around Corona restrictions. Between time and location issues, and trying not to burst out laughing midway through a take, we eventually pulled it off and we're so excited to finally share it with everyone.
