Beta Waves - Hideaway
Beta Waves are Dundee duo Dale Easson and Harry Crossan, their music is best described as colourful psych-synthpop.
The formation of the band was pretty much accidental with Harry and Dale working on their own individual projects and although they knew each other it was a chance encounter outside a pub that brought the collective heads together.
Beta Waves’ music began with tracks that Dale had written as a little bit of a hobby, with lyrics and melodies written and recorded on a mobile phone for posterity.
But there was always the ambition for something more as Dale admits:
I’d had a few of the songs for quite a while and I would kick myself if I hadn’t done anything with them, at least recorded them properly.
And it may have been a solo project if it were not for a chance encounter on the streets of Dundee.
In a short space of time the duo have made Beta Waves one of the most promising electronic pop prospects to come out of Scotland in years, from playing in front of crowds made up mostly of their pals, they moved on to supporting the likes of St. Martiins, Neon Waltz and Holy Esque and began to earn spots at music festivals.
Their fast growth earned them a spot on Vic Galloway’s ones to to watch list for 2019.
Previous singles to date have all had extensive airplay and they are also a duo renowned for helping other artists remix their tracks, recently remixing HAZE for Kieren Webster’s new Band WEB.
Their latest release Hideaway came out today, Friday 3 April 2020 and it an absolute banger, it’s the perfect song for bringing us into Spring, ideal for chilling with in those longer evenings !!!
It starts off with an electro synth, before drum beat kicks in, producing a swirling sound of upbeat pop, perfectly paced disco beat, and smooth lyrics it really is the reason why this duo are definitely a band worth following.
Lyrically the song to me describes the breakdown of a relationship which is a contrast to the upbeat vibe of the song, it starts off with “you’ve been caught breaking hearts before” and continues with the recurrent “hideaway from all the things that you wanted me to say it was never enough and you gave away the rest of what you had on you the day you lost everything”
I really can’t give this song too many platitudes it really is electro pop at its best.
