Kolombia - Tempted
Kolombia are a four piece guitar and piano driven RocknRoll band based in Manchester. They are Olly Davis (guitar/vocals), Luke Percy (bass), Freddie Elmberg (keys) and Jake Hopkins (drums).
Fusing classic rock with the current sounds of Manchester in a melodic nature with lyrics about everyday life and emotion they draw influences from Oasis, The Beatles, The Stone Roses and The Rolling Stones and infuse them with a contemporary new sound.
From their first show supporting Little Strange at Jimmy’s Manchester in April 2019, the band have gone from strength to strength. Kolombia have now crossed off The Castle Hotel, Thirsty Scholar and returning to Jimmy’s Manchester to support the band Sounds Like a Storm.
On 1 February 2020, the band played their debut headline show at the Eagle Inn, Salford. This gig marked the beginning of the rise of Kolombia in the Manchester area.
Their debut single Tempted was released on 29 March 2020.
It kicks off with a very psychedelic catchy guitar hook, which carries the song throughout, but there are a couple of surprises in store during the song with a fantastic guitar riff ripping the song up a notch, and some excellent keys throughout. Olly’s soulful vocal prevents this song from going full on rocknroll when the aforementioned riff kicks in and it’s for the better for that.
There are some clever lyrics highlighting the feel good vibes of the song, one of my favourites being “staring at the bedroom ceiling watching life drive by, you can have everything you wanted, to keep them two alive“
I also like the chorus “you don’t have to be accepted, cos only time can truly reflect it, so allow yourself, to be tempted”.
When I was sent the track I did have some fears that a Manchester band named Kolombia may be a copycat Oasis but this song totally allayed that fear. It’s an absolute fucking killer tune and deserves a lot of airplay.
