wrest - blood
wrest is a Scottish indie band, making music from Edinburgh's Old Town, they are Stewart Douglas (lead vocals/guitar), Stephen Whipp (vocals/guitar), Craig Robertson (bass) and Jonny Tait (drums).
Their sound combines soaring guitars with layered lyrics and heartfelt melodies, reminiscent of bands like Frightened Rabbit, The National, Idlewild, Snow Patrol and We Were Promised Jetpacks.
The latest single blood follows hard on the heels of a perfectly spherical world and is from the forthcoming five track EP A World That Has Left You Unspoken, releasing at the end of this month.
blood is released today, Friday 12 June, and is another great release from the Edinburgh band, it’s an emotional piece of indie rock, it has a great melody, with a rhythm set by some rolling guitars and epic drums.
As usual with wrest it is very strong lyrically, I loved the chorus/verse “doesn’t owe me nothing now another face in any old crowd, when you stop me bleeding out you’re so cut up but your doing me proud, doesn’t owe me nothing now should I take these words and bury them in the ground, doesn’t owe me nothing now nothing left that we just could count”.
There is also something very poignant about the line “the bloods in everybody, it’s in my veins, my twisted veins, my bloooo……d”.
With blood, wrest continue to impress with their soaring melodies and heart on sleeve lyrics, it’s another outstanding track.
I can’t wait for the release of their new EP later in the month, it will be seriously good, in the meantime I’m going to give blood some love, you should too!!
