Adam Barrett - Useless Paintings

Adam Barrett has made a late entry into the songwriting world, writing his first song in 2018. Before this he spent his time almost exclusively as a guitarist, lending his talents to bands and theatre productions along the way.

In 2017 Adam decided to turn his hand to singing and introduced his voice to the public by doing covers, he was met with positive feedback, eventually amassing over 30,000 online followers.

In 2020, as a compromise between him and his fans, he put out an album of half original songs, half cover songs titled 50/50.

Despite not being keen to promote an album of home demos, the plaudits and recognition he received gave Adam the encouragement to release more original music.

His latest song Useless Paintings was released on Friday 12 February and is a fantastic piano driven acoustic ballad.

Luke Taylor, a good friend of Adam was the talented musician who delivered the stunning melancholic melody. The melody is the perfect foil for Adam’s strong and engaging vocal.

The track is poignant and moving, reflecting on opportunities missed and times gone by and Adam’s vocal delivery filled with emotion tugs at your heart as he sings lines such as “once I was on the right track now I’m trying to find my way back to the days where we played with no fear”.

Useless Paintings is a fabulous showcase for the vocal and songwriting skills of Adam, it will see him step out of the shadows of the cover songs that brought him to our attention and set him on a path to become a star in his own right.
