Martin Leary - Watch The Sun Burn Your Eyes
Martin Leary is an indie rock and alternative artist originally from Prestwick, now based in Glasgow.
He had a busy 2020 dropping the singles Let It Go and Walk In The Sun and finished it off with the release of his EP All In Good Time which featured production and collaboration with Gregor McPhie.
Continuing his work alongside McPhie, Leary released his latest single Watch The Sun Burn Your Eyes on Friday 19 February.
When asked about the track Martin explains:
The songs about the frustrations of modern day life, finding ‘real love’ right now, especially in lockdown, is going on dating apps, to me that filtered cv dating is brutal.
He follows up by saying the lead line has lots of meanings:
you’re desperately looking for hope so long it hurts? Perhaps the future’s so bright you can’t take it? Or you’re prepared to take the pain in hope for better?
We are welcomed to Watch the Sun Burn Your Eyes with dramatic distorted guitars creating a real rock’n’roll vibe to the track. Martin gives us some superb change ups between the choruses as the guitar riffs are unleashed.
There is a real energy to the track, with Martin’s vocal gliding effortlessly alongside, its a song delivering a real statement of intent and will create a huge buzz for the future if this is the production and sound we can expect moving forward.
Lyrically it’s a song that has you second guessing on its meaning as everyone will take their own interpretation and that’s a positive as it will resonate with many.
My favourite lines are when Martin sings “slave to the system you cannot find, anything that keeps you satisfied”.
AliveandGigging is a huge fan of Martin Leary and I predict that 2021 will see him take big strides in the Scottish music scene, he’s definitely one to watch and brilliant bangers like Watch the Sun Burn Your Eyes will only help.
Another one to be added to the must see list, I reckon I will be out every night once gigs are back.
