Phantom Isle are Northamptonshire born/London based New Wave outfit, they are Peter Marchant (vocals/guitar), Joshua Guy (keys/drum machine) Jonny Longland (bass) and Sam Thorne (drums).

Their visceral and ethereal Art Pop music has saw them attract lots of attention, from starring on the beaches of Brighton at The Great Escape Festival, they sold out a two thousand capacity European festival spotlight show and have gained support from BBC Introducing.

Previous track MAR V received masses of support over the summer from Jack Saunders and Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1, Tom Robinson on BBC 6Music and John Kennedy on Radio X as well as bagging track of the week on BBC Introducing in Northamptonshire with Lal Muttock.

Phantom Isle return with their latest single Whip which was released today, Wednesday 30 September.

Discussing the track Sam Thorne says:

I wrote the lyrics by putting myself back into the mindset of my teenage years. It was a very turbulent time for me, and my mind became a hotbed of chaotic thoughts and selfish decisions. This song explores an alternate history that never happened. Drum-wise, I was trying to make the song as danceable as possible. Think uptempo disco crossed with 'Dare' by Gorillaz. On top of that, we added a whole heap of percussion rhythms to push against the driving drum pattern. The chords came from Vulfpeck and lounge music, the voice came from classic thriller disco, and the synth sounds were a mix of mid 80’s electro-pop and early 90’s techno. Oh, and that whip-crack is from my love of PC Music and the 70’s new wave outfit Sparks.

Whip is another highly danceable track from Phantom Isle, it has some high pitched vocals to match the 80’s disco vibes that run throughout the track, it has some gorgeous change ups with some sparkling keys giving it a real psychedelic energy.

it’s been another weekend you didn’t mean to ruin, you got so high you didn’t know what you were doin’” say the lyrics and you can imagine that scenario as you get lost in the atmosphere of this mesmerising dance anthem.

I dare you not to dance to this song, it’s just so catchy and full of fun, it’s a real jam of ideas but when blended together is a real treat to the ears. And when it penetrates the ears you will dance, I guarantee it.

Whip is a highly innovative track, you can see why Phantom Isle get plaudits for their music and this one will also attract plenty of attention and a bit of airplay.
