Say Hello To Happy Accidents
Who are Happy Accidents
We're Phoebe (vocals/drums) and Rich (vocals/guitar)! We were formed whilst we were living in Southampton and played our first gig there in 2014.
Where are you from
Phoebe is originally from Southampton and Rich from London, but we've both lived in London for the past 5 years.
What music genre are you
I think we fit mostly in the indie/punk/rock/alternative kinda bracket.
For fans of
We like to think people who like bands like The Sidekicks/Colour Me Wednesday/Hop Along would be into us!
What music have you released so far
Yep, from this latest album Sprawling, we have released the singles Secrets and Grow.
We also have two other albums out in the in the world namely You Might Be Right and Everything But The Here And Now.
oh! and My Thoughts
I’m ashamed to admit but I’m a bit late to the party with Happy Accidents and I have been catching up with some fabulous tunes.
I love the latest album Sprawling which I discovered as a result of hearing the lead single Secrets.
Secrets is an absolute delight of a track, it kicks off with a predominant drum beat which together with a layered melody gives the track a mystical dreamy vibe complemented by a strong vocal from Rich. But the experimental side to Happy Accidents is also there, as the track progresses there is a more psychedelic feel to it before it ultimately ends with a full on drum assault on our ears from Phoebe as the song fades out.
I love the harmonised chorus of Secrets when the duo sing “when everything’s alright, I’ll tell you baby, I’ll tell you baby, when everything is dying, I’ll tell you baby, I’ll tell you baby“.
I could pick any track from the album and wax lyrically about it, it really is a great album, so much so I’ve ordered the vinyl, but I’m going to focus on another couple of tracks, firstly Grow and then Back In My Life which are for me the standout tracks.
Grow is a more laid back tune, it has stripped back to guitar and drums and sees Phoebe lead on the vocals, and it has a great opening line “tell me when you’re OK, when you’re in the mood to laugh, can we please be who we want to be”, which really sums up the meaning of the track for me. It tells the story of a person who needs to find themselves in order to develop and grow.
Back In My Life has a heavier feel to it, almost a grunge pop feel, if I haven’t just made that genre up, it has much heavier guitars but as usual delivers a fantastic melody. Lyrically it describes the feelings of maybe missing someone who was once in your life, typified by the words “the years have slowly burned our trust away, I heard that you are OK”.
I could go on about many more songs, but believe me when I say that if like me you hadn’t really been aware of Happy Accidents then it’s time to bring them into your life. They write some fantastic melodies with self-aware lyrics and will enhance any playlists for any mood.
