Who are Virtues

We are an alternative rock band who are young, poorly kitted out and full of fresh and exciting tunes. We are comprised of singer and rhythm guitarist Jess Mowat, lead guitarist Jack Devall, bass guitarist Ross White and drummer Ross Henderson.

We are based in sunny Aberdeen and formed in September 2019

We are for fans of anyone who wants to hear a return to direct and hard hitting rock music packed with heavy breakdowns, but also have the slower, more melodic side to our writing. Due to our range of influences we can appeal to fans of punk, grunge, post punk, indie, new wave and even classic rock

What music have you released so far

We released our debut EP You’re Alive in typical Virtues fashion with a distribution error leading us to share a Spotify page with an Australian hip hop artist for a month. 

oh! and My Thoughts

I absolutely love the EP, it’s a no nonsense set of four rock tracks, that showcase a good mix of songs, like the hard hitting in your face punkiness of Sugar Rush, the darker vibes of Lucy, and Architect somewhere in between and the more paired back Hey You.

Architect starts off mellow but builds up the atmosphere and energy as it progresses, it has a really catchy rhythm. Sugar Rush is certainly more punk orientated with its heavier drums and faster riffs, it’s the most explosive song on the EP.

With Lucy I detect a more new wave 80’s rock influence, some of the riffs remind me of The Cure, which is no bad thing. Hey You ends the EP, it starts off almost acoustic, just guitar and vocals as it gradually builds up before introducing the rest of the band, it’s a good way to finish the EP.

Overall, a huge thumbs up from me, a good mix of styles and sound within the four songs and as a debut EP gives them a great platform to build from, and I will be joining them on the journey.
