Say Hello To Ivy Black

Who are Ivy Black

Formed in Autumn 2017 we are a Scottish modern melodic rock band and comprise of Laura Letford (vocals), Blair Allison (guitar), Connor Featherstonehaugh (bass) and Josh Marsh (drums).

Much of our time was spent playing gigs and various events across Scotland in an array of venues, although recently we worked extensively to record our first single. Whilst each of us is heavily invested in the band, we are (first and foremost) great friends, we enjoy spending time together away from the band. Our friendships enable an open and collaborative writing process whereby credit is attributed to each of us through a shared understanding that our individual contributions are equally valuable.

oh! and My Thoughts

So Ivy Black have released one song Cameras, but wow what a debut !!

The track kicks off with a fantastic heavy bass giving it a real rock feel, before the guitars and drums join in to give it a catchy melody that has you toe tapping and nodding your head, giving it approval from the off.

It’s a dark melodic rock track, with a crisp bass line giving that brooding feel and the vocals are delivered brilliantly to complement this, the song to me seems to be a dark love story, perhaps a gothic romance with a Vampire or another creature of the night.

It has some witty lyrics, I love the opening verse “I’ll bark at the moon and hiss at the sun, I’ll send shivers that slide up your spine, here to sign the deed when the deed is done have you begging at my leg that you were mine”.

It has a very memorable singalong chorus “unbearable attraction whatever the fashion addicted to passion just like those cameras flashing woah oh woah oh …….

The last verse is maybe a plea that a love story is possible as the lyrics are “stranger things have happened, stranger things have happened, stranger things have happened, than if you were to fall in love with me”.

Cameras is a fantastic introduction to Ivy Black, it is a stunning debut single, and I really can’t wait to hear more from the Edinburgh quartet. It’s being added to my playlists, get the track added to yours too !!

Ivy Black are another fantastic up and coming band and if they continue to write songs in the vein of Cameras then they have a huge future ahead of them. I need to go see them as soon as restrictions are lifted, before tickets become too difficult to get hold off.
