Forgetting The Future - Questions for the Band

IMG_0641.jpeg

I caught up with Thurso indie rockers Forgetting The Future a few weeks back, as usual I will let the boys tell you a little bit about themselves.

A gentle start, for those that don't know the band that well. can you tell us a little bit about yourselves ?

Forgetting The Future are an Indie Rock Band From the most Northernly town in the UK! But that doesn’t stop us playing all over the country!  We are young pups that have played some amazing gigs and sold out shows all over the United Kingdom with some incredible bands like Sam Fender, Neon Waltz, Baby Strange and many more. We recently achieved one of our lifelong goals which was to get signed to a Record Label when we joined InTime Records run by our new manager Alan Greer who scripts all of our music videos edits them and deals with all the nitty gritty stuff, also co-owner and our amazing producer Ken Allardyce who has worked with the likes of Green Day, Fleetwood Mac, Weezer, The GooGoo Dolls and many more. We have a huge array of songs out on all music platforms ie. Spotify, ITunes. Amazon Music etc including our latest single Inhaler that is near to hit 20,000 streams on Spotify in the next few day’s!

Who are the bands musical influences ?

Our biggest influences come from bands like Catfish And The Bottlemen with there bass driven indie music with soulful lyrics, The Wombats with there whacky Huge Indie sounds and Honest Lyrics and other bands like , Royal Blood, Rory Gallagher, Jimi Hendrix and many many more!

What is your writing process ? Music or Lyrics First ?

Our writing process first begins usually in my (Robbie) bedroom or spare room. I usually try to come up with some cool one liners that make you feel bad ass, Alongside some up front soft honest lyrics too, I then rap the words and syllables around a nice melody with some weird chords and add some dynamics to them once Iam happy with them. After that I take it to the boys and see what they can come up with and what grooves with the tune!

What is your favourite and least favourite parts of being in a band ?

My Least favourite part about being in a band is my dress sense which has seen me being called One Direction before which is not a very complimenting remark in the rock world ahah! But I personally can’t fault anything about being a musician in a band, I love every aspect of it, from playing slamming shows all over the country in a different city every night all the way over to interviews and press which both come hand in hand. Having someone that is interested in talking to you about your music in the form of an interview is one of the best feelings ever! And me myself being a bit of a slever kind of helps too. Also having dedicated fans who listen and attend our gigs regularly and don’t get sick of our god awful patter is great too! We have the best fans we could possibly ask for and we try to thank them every day by posting Acoustic songs, Funny Videos, Pub Quizzes on our Instagram stories and so much more on our socials. We appreciate these guys so much and we would be nothing without them!

What items are always on your rider for a gig ?

It’s usually boring stuff like Bananas, Tea and some sort of biscuits for me but the rest of the boys enjoy some beer and cider on there’s there a bit more rock and roll in that sense ahah!

If you could choose to support any band who would it be and why ?

It would have to be someone like Catfish And The Bottlemen for me I just think there class! I’m a bit of a fan girl for them! But I’m also really enjoying The Snuts who I seen at TRNSMT last year and I hear they are playing near us soon in Inverness so that would be mega cool!

What are you doing do get through lockdown and do you have any tips for others ?

Im Sleeping a lot more than I should and eating a lot of Junk Food, But also keeping productive by writing new songs and recording Demos to send to the band and my label, So expect some wild bangers to come out of lockdown ahah! My advice would be to try your best not to worry about what’s going on and pretend it’s a holiday inside the comfort of your own home! Also our new single Inhaler is desperate for a spin so go check thatout!

Given our current living situation with Covid -19, what are your plans for the rest of the year ?

Our plans are to organise a huge tour after lockdown and come see all of our patient friends at some great venues! We will probably be recording some new music to put out as singles too so hold me to that! We’re also itching to announce some great festival slots so look out for that!

And finally, if you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be and why ?

Damn that is a hard one! I’d have to go for The Fratellis – Costello Music! That album is just banger after banger and I am extremely looking forward to seeing them play at belladrum next year!

Thanks to Rob for a great insight into what the lads have been up to during lockdown and a little bit more on top, you may noticed they have plugged their new single Inhaler a couple of times, get this listened to it’s an absolute banger of a track.
