WEB - Questions for the Band
This weeks Questions for the Band features WEB, the new project of Kieren Webster, I caught up with them just as we went into full lockdown !! As usual I will let them introduce themselves.
A gentle start, for those that don't know the band that well. can you tell us a little bit about yourselves ?
Kieren - Guitar and Vocals, Andy - Bass, Gav -Drums. I’m from Dundee, Andy and Gav are from Paisley. We met in Glasgow and formed the band last year.
Who are the bands musical influences ?
We listen to a lot of the Fall and Jesus and the Mary Chain.
Have you found it a benefit or a hindrance to your new band that you were previously in The View ?
Definitely a benefit it’s good to have the experience I got from playing all those years with The View. As well as the friends and connections I’ve made along the way who have really helped kick start this new project.
What is your writing process ? Music or Lyrics First ?
90% of the time it’s lyrics first. But I have been experimenting lately with writing music first.
What is an average day like for you ?
Now that we’re in lockdown it’s usually a run then a lot writing and playing then binge watching Better Call Saul and the Ozarks.
What is your favourite and least favourite parts of being in a band ?
My favourite part is seeing new places and playing the live shows. My least favourite is being stuck in the van for hours to get to the gigs.
Tell me, what is on your rider at a gig ?
They used to sometimes get ridiculous with The View but now I’m happy with some decent beer.
If you could collaborate with anyone who would it be and why ?
Jack White because he’s a genius.
Looking ahead for this year, what are your plans ? can we expect new music ? and do you have any ambitions that you want to fulfill this year ?
Definitely more new music. Our first tour got postponed until November so looking forward to that. Would have been good to play our first outdoor festival this year but with them all being cancelled it’s looking like that won’t happen until next year.
And finally, if you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be and why ?
Definitely Maybe because it was the sound track to my youth and the album that first inspired me to make music.
