The Novacs - Questions for the Band

This weeks Questions for the Band are answered by The Novacs a fantastic up and coming young band from Lanarkshire, as usual I will let the band introduce themselves.

A gentle start, for those that don't know the band that well, can you tell us a little bit about yourselves ?

Reiss Harrison - Lead Singer, Rhythm Guitarist

Sam Cane - Lead Guitarist, Backing Vocalist

Kian Armstrong - Bass Player

Camie Waugh - Drummer

All from a town called Airdrie where we have always lived. Went to the same high school however not the original set up of the band. Merging out of two bands. The Novacs started in 2016 as a four piece with Reiss and Sam but two other members who left for controversial reasons. Camie and Kian joined with bright new ideas and played the first gig with them in 2018.

Who are the bands musical influences ?

Influences include Catfish and The Bottlemen Across all members. Lindsey Buckingham and Eric Johnson for Sam. John Entwistle for Kian and Ringo Starr for Cameron.

What is your writing process ? Music or Lyrics First ?

Lyrics usually come first but not always sometimes theres a melody that sticks around and can be figured out and made into a song.

What is your favourite and least favourite parts of being in a band ?

Favourite parts of being in a band is that it means you always have plans for the weekend and after you play a good gig you can be feeling good for weeks. The bad parts are how strict you have to be at practices and recordings in order to get the best sound. Its not all fun and games as it seems to most people. Theres also lugging around equipment for gigs like amps and guitars, sometimes a full drumkit which isnt fun.

What equipment do you always take to a gig ?

Items that we always take are Reiss’ fender telecaster, Sams Fender strat, Kians’ gretsch G2220, Sams Blackstar amp and pedal board, Camies drum breakables. We should take back up guitars but the lugging is sometimes too much we do sometimes however and Kian brings some pedals when he can be arsed.

If you could choose to support any band who would it be and why ?

This answer would vary between members. If would likely be between Catfish and The Bottlemen, Blossoms or The Slaves. We have a similar sound to Catfish so their audience would like us. Blossoms are becoming bigger and bigger with albums flying all over the place so would be great to support them. The Slaves are different from us but we have some heavy songs that we could use to fit in.

Looking ahead for this year, what are your plans ? can we expect new music ? and do you have any ambitions that you want to fulfill this year ?

You can definitely expect new music from us throughout the year, our new single Patchin’ is out next week. We have written more songs than we can afford to record and thats our main problem. We only have 5 songs out but about 50 in the bank. Theres a lot of money that goes into this and we are the most skint band there is. By the end of this year we would hope to secure a slot for TRNSMT 2021

And finally, if you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be and why ?

Sam - Rumours by Fleetwood Mac

Kian - Humbug by Arctic Monkeys

Camie - One by The Beatles

Reiss - Abbey Road by The Beatles

Thanks to Sam, for sharing an insight into in my opinion one of the best up and coming bands in Scotland and I predict a bright future for these lads.
