Walt Disco - Beat Generator 1 Feb 2020
Walt Disco arrive in Dundee as one of the bands tipped by many for 2020 to be their year.
They come with a reputation of unpredictable and flamboyant live shows and their is anticipation in the air as they are welcomed to the stage by Vic Galloway.
The start off with Hey Boy which set the scene for the night ahead, a stomping glam rock number with buzzing guitars and synth and we are back in the 80’s with a modern twist.
Strange to Know starts off a bit calmer but still with the intensity that will continue.
A smile is brought to James face when he announces the next week Dancing Shoes and he repeats “I think I like this one” after picking the comment up from the crowd.
And what’s not to like this one definitely has a more post-punk New Romantic feel to it but as the name implies it does get the crowd dancing along.
The set rattles along as the band deliver a sharp synth rock with the added theatrics of James as they play I’m What You Want, Weight of the World, Sling and Cut Your Hair.
Pop Sensibilities is their next number and pays homage to the 80’s again with perhaps even some recognition with Dundee’s very own The Associates, with its synth pop melodies.
Past Tense is another great song touching on the darker sides of life and relationships which is delivered with a very David Bowie’esque tone.
Drowning in Your Velvet Bed is the perfect frenetic finish to an absolutely blinding set by Walt Disco.

The hype was definitely true, I think my final thoughts were WTF just hit me, with an energetic delivery of androgynous post punk synth pop.
I have to say I was a bit disappointed with the attendance for one of the most innovative bands in Scotland at the moment, the good news they are coming back to Dundee on Thursday 7 May at The Hunter S Thompson, don’t miss them next time!!!
In the meantime check them out below:
