Shhe - The Hug and Pint 25 Jan 2020
Shhe released her self titled debut album in November 2019 to some critical acclaim.
I had the pleasure of seeing her perform some of the tracks in Assai Record store in Dundee in what I believe was her first in-store and was blown away by her talent.
So when it was announced that she was going to tour the album with four Scottish shows I just had to be there. As I was going to be in London for my/her hometown show in Dundee I made the journey to Glasgow for her show as part of the Celtic Connection festival, it was also my first gig at The Hug and Pint.
The Hug and Pint is a small intimate basement venue and it was jam packed for the arrival of Shhe.
The evening kicked off with Eyes Shut which is my favourite track on the album and I’m not disappointed by the live performance, atmospheric by her use of layered live instrumentation to complement the fragility of her voice.
We then move on to what was to be the standout song from the set for me in Saint Cyrus with her guitar beats and voice raising the song to what feels like her personal anthem.
The evening continues with the songs being played live in the same order as the recorded album.
It really was a fantastic evening of eerie synth-pop in an intimate venue and great use of lighting to raise her melodic voice to an even more haunting level than produced in the studio.
