All Night Dining - There Must’ve Been A Reason
All Night Dining are a Manchester band that carries an alternative rock sound in their music. The band is made up of Caleb (vocals/guitar) Jake (lead guitar), Jamie (bass) and Joel (drums).
The band who formed in 2019 have been cultivating a real buzz around them over the past year, garnering strong crowds at gigs and thousands of streams on their first teaser release Butterfly earlier in 2020.
There Must’ve Been A Reason is the bands official debut single and was released on Friday 25 September.
The track was produced by Kevin Foy (Algiers, Hey Bulldog). The band can’t speak highly enough of Kevin and commented:
He’s incredibly talented and so easy to collaborate with. He also just knows everything you need in order to record a song not just right but well. Working with Kev is like a magician showing you how all those crazy magic tricks are done. He really opened our eyes to a big and ambitious sound. But above all of that talent, charm and good looks, he’s a great lad.
The band had originally planned to release the single much sooner, however the Covid-19 pandemic put a bit of a spanner in the works, meaning they were unable to complete the recording due to social distancing restrictions as Caleb explains:
We went into the studio just before lockdown, 1 March, I remember we were talking about everything that was going on, wondering if it’ll get worse and hoping for the best. It might sound cliché but we really did think this was our year. We had our heads screwed on, made plans for what we were going to do this year. Obviously that didn’t happen, but this time off has done nothing but make us more hungry for it.
When asked about the single Caleb says:
It shows my selfish side I think, it’s like, I want this person to just ignore everything else and be with me. I was so caught up in the moment of it all that when the rug was pulled I just didn’t understand what happened. This isn’t a I hate you why did you leave me type song. It’s more of a I still love you, what went wrong?. I’m trying to tell them how I feel, but I’m stopped constantly by the thought of losing sight of who I am.
There Must’ve Been A Reason is driven by a catchy guitar riff melody, interspersed with some upbeat hooks that really engage you with the song and keeps it fresh, it is going to stick in the head for sure.
It’s as the band say written about the frustration of wanting answers from someone who is no longer part of your life and the lyrics tell of a situation that is probably all too familiar to so many, desperately wanting to tell someone how you feel, but the chance has long since passed.
This is illustrated in the lines “I thought we’d be fine, stay til the morning, just let go for tonight, you won’t believe me I think of you all the time”.
Now if Butterfly was a taster and There Must’ve Been A Reason is the main event then with All Night Dining we have got a band in our hands, they play catchy melodies, there is energy and emotion in the lyrics and they have a production that grabs your attention from the outset.
They thought that 2020 was going to be their year, let’s just revise that, if they keep writing songs as they are then they are going to rocket in 2021, hop aboard now and enjoy the ride !!
