WACO - Good Days

London based cosmic punk rock quartet WACO are Jak (vocals/guitar), James (bass/vocals), Tom (guitar/vocals) and Welshy (drums/vocals).

Originating from the nooks and crannies of the UK (North Yorkshire, Jersey and Teesside), WACO came together through an animalistic compulsion to make noise and a shared goal to brainwash the masses with their relentless optimism and powerful music.

WACO’s debut album Human Magic was released on Standby Records in November 2019 and featured the sorcery of their late bassist, Chris, who tragically passed away at the end of 2018. The record was written as a form of therapy to help the band cope with their loss.

The band have toured with Juliette Lewis & The Licks and appeared at Reading Festival, 2000 Trees, and more, with previous press coverage from LOUDER, Kerrang! Magazine, UPSET Magazine, and Punktastic, alongside radio support from BBC Radio One DJs Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens, Phil Taggart and Dan P Carter, and Planet Rock Radio.

They are now joined by old friend James on bass guitar and they are excited to announce the first material from their forthcoming second album Hope Rituals, set for release later this year.

And that first material was Good Days which was released on Venn Records (the independent record label owned by UK punks Gallows) today, Monday 27 April 2020 and is all proceeds from the track will go towards NHS Charities Together to support the National Health Service through the COVID-19 crisis and beyond.

Produced by Steve Sears Jr at Monolith Studios, London, Good Days is roaring slice of modern punk rock, it’s got the traditional driving guitar riffs which you would expect, but WACO are not afraid to push the boundaries of the genre, as they throw in some psychedelic guitar riffs to give this song a real upbeat and positive vibe, the message of Good Days is one of optimism which is much needed as lockdown continues.

Lyrically the song starts with probably how most of us must feel at the moment “I have been having those good days, bad days” but the we start getting more positive as the song progresses as we hear “good days are getting more frequent, I’m waking up with a smile, one day this will disappear, right now I’ll be OK” before the song ends with a raise the roof feel good message “feels so good, feels so good, feels so good today, feels so good, feels so good, feels so good today, feels so good, feels so good, feels so good today, feels so good, feels so good, everything’s going to be OK”.

Good Days is a banger of a tune, it will bring a fucking smile to your face and have you pogoing around the house, and even better it’s for a fantastic cause, so give this track some real love.

Now I have to admit that I wasn’t overly familiar with WACO and have spent a bit of today catching up with them and wow they have blown me away with their back catalogue, fucking glorious punk rock with all sorts of mixed genre (folk, prog rock) thrown in.

So as well as the release of the single they also released the official video for Good Days and due to the self-isolation and lockdown measures, WACO called on fans of the band and the general public to be involved in this by submitting home footage, which was then used to create the video.

Commenting on the submissions, the band said

We're overwhelmed by the support and creativity from our fans for the Good Days video. It was touching to see smiling, positive faces from the UK, US, Russia, Italy and beyond. They reminded us that good days are waiting just around the corner, and got involved with a great cause to help health care workers who are putting everything on the line for the rest of us.
