The Wound Review - EP

The Wound Review are Jamie Coltart and Steven Melens originally from the Highlands but now based in Glasgow.

This is their debut EP and although it has been out for a couple of months it will have unfortunately flown under the radar for most.

The bands style of music is best described as Indie rock reflecting on isolation and anxiety, think of a much quieter Twilight Sad !

The opening track Lately is a song which seems to be about escapism and “never going back” it’s a well constructed track with good melody and clear vocals. All of This follows the same theme of a sense of desperation with heartfelt lyrics and instrumentation that complements the sometimes haunting vocal.

Requiem is another heartfelt song of despair with the lyrics ”embrace yourself and suffocate” summing up the tone of the song. Villain is another well written song following the themes of isolation, despair and loneliness, with the guitars beautifully and hauntingly complementing the lyrics.

The final track Have We Lost That Touch has a steady drum beat to keep the pace of the song and throw a feeling of someone clashing in the song summed up by the lyric “I don’t want you back again” again dealing with themes of despair and isolation.

Overall the EP is a series of really well constructed songs along a similar theme of hopelessness, the guys vocals compliment each other very well on all the tracks. If I were to be a little critical the EP was crying out for one song with a real change of pace to add a little contrast to a well honed theme.
