Goose Chase - Relaxing Songs For Your Drive Home
Goose Chase are the Leed’s based punk quintet, featuring Taylor Jones (vocals), Jamie Waller (guitar/vocals), James Masterson (guitar), Eddie Lomax (bass) and Rob Hughes (drums).
Goose Chase burst into our rooms in late April with their debut single Time Goes Too Fast For Me and this was quickly followed up with Rich Get Richer.
The lads are continuing their rich vein of releases as their debut EP Relaxing Songs For Your Drive Home comes out today, Friday 19 June.
The EP kicks off with the aforementioned Time Goes Too Fast For Me iand it’s a brilliant opening track, it’s good old fashioned punk rock, driving guitar riffs and loud drums, all creating a buzz of anticipation and excitement as the song progresses.
Lyrically there are some good verses, I particularly liked “yeah we drove around, round a corner a silhouette, she hardly makes a sound, mainly smelling of cigarette, you don’t want her drowned in a lazy sound effect, she’s in a lost and found a misplaced Juliet”.
Ready For Me is the next track and it’s a belting indie tune with a punky edge, it has a thrashing start stop guitar melody which really makes you pay attention to this track.
The last forty five seconds of the track really allow the boys to unleash their musical talents as the song takes on a real psychedelic vibe as it plays out with the repeated vocal of “are you ready for me, are you ready for me, are you ready for me…….”.
Next up is Eliza, For Shame continues the vein of melodic punk vibes, the track is driven by a chunky guitar riff that makes you prick up your ears and pay attention. The song is again packed full of fantastic lyrics i particularly loved the lines “spend my days, beneath the waves, hiding behind this drunken haze” and also “Eliza for shame, look what you’ve done, I was just trying to have some fun”.
Murderstar definitely has a less punky edge and is more straight up indie rock, it has that guitar riff melody and true to form it has an anthemic chorus, this change of pace really showcases the musicianship of Goose Chase as they easily shift between genres.
The final track Rich Get Richer sees the boys sharpen their political pencils with an anthem against capitalism. It’s another fierce blast of punk, it has a fantastic frenzied guitar riff and bombastic drums to drive the anarchic melody, combined with strong political lyrics.
The opening lines are “another fucking Tory just standing by watching the poor with their dollar sign eyes, five more years of austerity” describing the political landscape. The track slows down towards the end and we almost have a spoken word verse as the guitars are held back a bit and the song finishes with the angst cry of the “the rich get richer, the rich get richer”.
Relaxing Songs For Your Drive Home is a great collection of indie tracks, mostly speedy punk tracks, but with the straight up indie rock banger Murderstar.
It’s a fantastic EP and bodes well for Goose Chase’s future, I predict really big things for the Leeds lads once they are allowed to tour and bring these songs to an audience, a crowd will bounce along and go absolutely mental when they are played.
