Heist At Five - Faceless

Heist At Five was born with the purpose of taking a shared love of hard rock music, and blending it with a contemporary, electronic edge. They are Oskar Abrahamsson (vocals/synths), Jozef Veselsky (guitar/synths), Marco Paone (bass) and Josh Needham (drums).

Their vision is to create fresh, exciting music, pushing the musical boundaries of what is possible when bringing two genres together.

With a wide range of influences from the rock scene and beyond, Heist At Five have refined their sound to include influences from Muse, Fall Out Boy, Don Broco and Enter Shikari.

They released their debut EP Finish What You Started in 2018 and the next single Falling With Style came in 2019.

This year has seen them release Friday Night in August and it’s subsequent remix a few weeks ago. They are now back with their brand new single Faceless, which was released on Friday 13 November.

When explaining the track the band said:

Faceless deals with an individual who struggles to form an identity, and tries to do so by piecing together scraps of different characters. To capture the essence of this inner conflict, we invited people of different backgrounds and upbringings to collaborate, and create several layers of vocal overdubs that interpret the lyrics with contrasting emotions. The claustrophobic cluster of voices ultimately explodes in a bombastic chorus, which blends rock and metal with elements of industrial, hip hop and dubstep.

Heist At Five were a band I wasn’t overly familiar with so I had to delve into their back catalogue to prepare for the review and in doing so have discovered some great electronic heavy rock tracks.

Now Faceless is certainly their most experimental track to date, it opens with a heavily distorted guitar, a crushing bass and a pounding drum beat, all with some spoken word vocals, recorded over each other to give the track an element of confusion and perhaps fear of the faceless character the song tries to bring to life, this feeling is heightened by the dark electric synths that swirl all over the tracks rhythm.

This mix of genres that shine throughout the track, trip-hop, industrial and alt rock don’t disguise the fact that Heist At Five are at their very best when on Faceless when edging towards the guitar heavier side of rock whilst keeping it fresh with those synths that gives the track added depth.

Faceless was a good introduction to me to Heist At Five and will look forward to hearing more of them in the future.
